Day Thirty-Two

Waking up on the first day of September caused me to reflect on the last several weeks of summer and all the people and places I'd visited.
I was expecting huge crowds of RV'ers being the Labor Day weekend but being the offseason I was the only RV in the entire park.
It was another gorgeous sunny day. No mist. No smoke. Nothing but blue sky.
I was about a three-hour drive west of Phoenix and I texted Cara regarding my ETA into Florence, where she lived.
Cara has moved into a relatively new active adult community south of Phoenix called Sun City Anthem. This is their grand entrance. Cara was excited to show me around her neighbourhood so we jumped in her little convertible and we toured the complex. The "clubhouse" was like nothing I'd ever seen. They had everything you could possibly imagine in terms of activities. Their exercise room had more equipment than a dedicated fitness centre. Two giant swimming pools, one inside and one outside, tennis and pickleball courts, restaurant, meeting room, craft centre with quilting, pottery, jewellery and glass sculpting classes.

I had to take a picture of this sign promoting an upcoming event in the ballroom.

Here's a shot of Cara's home. Many of the homes are empty because the owners are off somewhere else usually in a cooler climate until the summer heat dies down. I found it a little strange not to see kids out playing but this is a 55+ community so that's the way the residents prefer it.

Cara prepared a delicious dinner of pork loin, rice and corn on the cob. After dinner, we went out back and watched the stars overhead from her very comfortable anti-gravity loungers. It was great fun catching up on all the family dynamics we'd both experienced since my Phoenix days.
