Day Thirty-Nine
So far, over the past 38 days on the road, I have had almost no rain. This all changed today as I drove through the west Texas oil patch. It rained on and off all day and the forecast for the DFW (Dallas/Fort Worth) area called for rain all weekend.
I had lived in Dallas for five years back in 1989 when I worked for Honda Motor Co. so I was familiar with the area as I approached this huge Texas city.
George Duncan and I had crossed career paths over the twenty years I had worked for Honda so we had a history.
I arrived at his home in Arlington around 4:00 pm and was greeted at their door by his wife Linda. I didn't remember meeting her but she reminded me that we'd met years ago in Hawaii on one of the many Honda sales incentive trips.
George and Linda live in a gorgeous home in the south part of Fort Worth and welcomed me into their home. Although Linda had wanted to cook up a very southern style dinner for me, George had insisted on taking me out to their favourite Italian restaurant.
George has enjoyed his retirement but misses Honda as it represented such a big part of his life and his identity. Once we had returned to their home we spent much of the evening reminiscing about the "glory days" of Honda and how the entire motorcycle industry had changed since our employment.
Linda was very accommodating because she knew that George and I had much to talk about and just gave us the space to catch up and share the many stories that shaped who we are today.
Being Saturday night we closed out the evening watching Saturday Night Live and enjoyed all the political skits that made fun of president Trump. We both share our disdain for the Trump administration and hope that the midterm elections will weaken his party.
