Day Twenty Three

Good morning everyone. Another fine morning it is out here in the land of fruits and nuts.
Here's a photo of the small parking area in front of Daniel's landlady's home where I'm camped out.

I had electricity and Daniel had come up with Lynda's password so I had wifi too. Because of this it wasn't necessary for me to run into Starbucks and use theirs so I had a nice relaxing breakfast and finished up the last two days of blogging.
Since I had a limited supply of water and no sewer disposal I had a shave and shower in Daniel's pool house before meeting up with him in town.
We had a cup of coffee and discussed what we might do for the day. At this point he received a text from Lynda and she was not happy about me using her electricity and had gone out and unplugged me. I wasn't overly surprised by this because after all Daniel hadn't asked her permission to use her electricity. This wasn't a significant setback because I had packed a nice shiny new generator and this provided the incentive to get it set up and start using it.
One thing I really needed to do before another day had passed was to do my laundry. I was running out of clean clothes and I didn't want to bother with a laundromat in Los Angeles which is where I was headed the next day. Laundromats always seem a little on the seedy side of things and this place was no exception. There was a handful of old magazines to read, a very smelly bathroom and the sad faces of the few people using this establishment who clearly didn't want to be there.
It was great to finally have a stack of fresh clean clothes again.
Daniel and I met back at Starbucks and because the day was drifting by we decided to grab a bite to eat over at the Whole Foods market again. I think he really loves his town so we continued our tour of "The Barlow", which is this new area in the town core with a very eclectic mixture of new businesses and dining establishments.
A few years ago he and some friends had taken an old 1930's era pickup truck and converted it to an electric vehicle with four big solar panels on the roof to feed the bank of batteries that powered the motor. It was being stored at a place I believe was called "Makers" which was a sort of new age kind of place that was full of all kinds of amazing tools and equipment to make virtually anything where one would pay a membership and use the facilities to create your project. I had never heard of such a place and wished we had something like this in Muskoka.
He took me out to a friend's farm which had been used to grow organic vegetables to supply the former French Garden restaurant in town. The owner had since sold the restaurant which was now the Gravenstein Grill where Daniel loved to hang out and share a glass of wine with friends. The farmer had taken out all the vegetables and had planted thousand of lemon trees which apparently are far more profitable. These aren't your average lemons. These are Meyer lemons.

I had invited Daniel to have dinner with me at my trailer so while he got cleaned up I set up my generator and got started on preparing our meal.
We had a nice relaxing evening peppered with conversation relating to economics and accounting of all things as this is a passion that he frequently enjoys discussing.
The night was slowly slipping away when he got a text from his landlady, Lynda. Apparently a neighbor had complained about the noise from my generator and asked that I shut it off immediately. I planned to turn it off at bedtime anyway because it was too loud for me to get any sleep as well. Great little generator but in retrospect I should have stepped up and bought the much quieter Honda.
Tomorrow morning I'm off to Los Angeles.
