Day Thirty-One

I woke to the last day of August and the last day of summer. Duncan was getting ready to go to work while I was getting my trailer ready to head out on the road again.
We said our goodbyes and off he went while I got some breakfast organized.
I had hoped to reach Phoenix by tonight but also had a curiosity about stopping over in Quartzite, Arizona. Despite being the Friday before the Labor Day weekend the traffic wasn't bad at all.
I had not dumped my grey or black tanks in some time and they were both pretty full so I stopped at the Morongo Casino just outside Palm Springs, CA where Duncan had told me about a dump station.
For the non-RV bunch in the audience, the grey tanks hold water from the sinks and shower, mostly just soapy water, while the black tank holds waste from the toilet. I needed to dump these two tanks and for $15 I could do just that.
Once completed I was back on Hwy. 10 to Phoenix.
Here are some shots of the massive wind farm outside Palm Springs.

I-10 isn't the most exciting highway on the planet so it was a fairly long boring drive to Quartzite. Here's a shot from the truck going into this crazy desert town.

I wasn't sure what it would be like in the summer because this place grows from about 5,000 residents in the summer to hundreds of thousands in the winter as the "snowbirds" descend upon this remote desert community. It's also home to one of the world's largest gem shows and attracts rock collectors from all over the world.
Duncan and I had gone to bed after watching Deadpool 2 last night (which I highly recommend) but I hadn't actually turned out the lights until much later. As a consequence, I was pretty tired and figured I couldn't safely drive to Phoenix so I stopped for the night in Quartzite.
Having lived in Phoenix for seven years I wanted to go back and see my old house and also visit Cara Cameron, a woman I dated for a few years while living there.
I had texted her on route because she was expecting me but I won't be in Phoenix until tomorrow afternoon so I let her know.
I found an RV park called the Desert Gardens and booked in for the night. It's a little creepy here this time of year because there's no one here and I have the place all to myself. It's 106'F (41'C) so my a/c is going non stop just to keep me cool.

I may actually get my first sunset. Not enough clouds to really make this a spectacular sunset.

Tomorrow is Phoenix.
