Day Seventeen

This was a lazy morning for me as I had nothing going on till later in the day and this allowed me to have a bit of a lie in.
I noticed little sounds coming from the body of my RV as the sun's rays warmed the fibreglass shell and things started expanding from the heat.
It was great to have my cable TV working as I love watching the national news during breakfast.
I had invited Cavan and Angie to join me for dinner this evening so I needed to pick up some wine and a few other things for dinner.
My truck was covered with over 5,000 miles of bug suicides and dirt so I decided to give it a wash as I had some time that afternoon.
Being Friday afternoon and typical rush hour the trip into Portland to pick up Cavan and Angie was a breeze but driving back out of the city a couple of hours later was a real slog as it felt like the whole city was leaving for the weekend.
This was the first time that my son and his wife had seen my trailer and they couldn't get over how spacious it was. Angie said my bathroom was almost as big as theirs.
Cavan and I set up the BBQ. We had a very tasty chicken dinner and drinks and then it was back to Portland for the night.

One of the main reasons I chose to be in Portland at this specific time was so that I could participate in the annual Portland Downhill Derby Race being held tomorrow, Saturday August 18th.
Cavan, his friend Kyle and Kyle's wife Brandi had entered a derby car in the race but a few weeks ago some homeless people had broken into the building where their car had been stored and stripped it down to the frame, presumably to use the wheels and other parts to make their own cart to carry their stuff. This was a huge setback but Kyle and Brandi were not going to let this ruin their plan to race so they started over and built an even better car than the first one. Kyle had kept this from even Cavan because I think Kyle wanted to surprise him.
Because all race entrants were required to be at the race site by 6:30 am Cavan thought it would save time if I stayed with them Friday night. I got settled in on their couch for the night and we had lights out by 10:00. Tomorrow is race day. Can't wait.
